Tennessee Elk 2008
We went again to Hatfield Knob Lookout Tower near LaFollette, Tennessee and were again rewarded with the opportunity to observe the ever-growing herd of Elk. They were grazing quite close to us, and it was quite a treat to watch them. It has been 160 years or so since the last native elk was spotted in our state, and the move to reintroduce them has been quite successful so far. There were almost 30 animals in the group near us, and I think at least half of them were born in the US. The original ones were brought in from Canada, five or more years ago.
My 10X zoom is a wonderful thing!

What a beautiful place, and the herd seems to be thriving.
